The German Australian Business Association Inc (GABA) was established in 1983 as a non-profit organization. It’s mandate; to promote links between Australian and German businesses in Brisbane and to foster links between the Queensland government and the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Over the years this mandate has evolved and our membership covers South East Queensland.
GABA’s provides a variety of services to our members. We offer monthly events that educate, challenge and inspire new ways of approaching business issues. Event topics range from specific business topics to consulate matters. We also provide a networking forum for our members to catch-up with familiar faces and meet new ones, also on a monthly basis.
Today, GABA is a diverse group of, predominantly, German-Australian business owners, consultants, managers and entrepreneurs.
However, GABA is not strictly focused on business. We are aware of the importance of also offering social events to strengthen relationships and have some fun. We strive to have an events calendar that not only surprises our members, they look forward to participating.
Wolfgang Kelke, Master Pastry Chef, is the King of Cakes. His passion for culinary excellence has seen him work in some of the world’s finest restaurants and cake shops. With a wealth of technical expertise, he combines traditional artisan baking methods with family recipes. This unique blend results in the delicious traditional cakes, breads and pastries that come out of the King of Cakes ovens.
With an impressive list of qualifications and experience, Wolfgang decided it was time to introduce his craft to the rest of the world. He and his family chose to settle down in Brisbane where he opened the doors to his first cake shop in Taringa in April 1990.

Leon joins the committee as secretary with a wide range of experience in large corporates, previous accounting firms, financial services and funds management and a number of consulting and smaller businesses he has formed and operated.
Leon’s extensive financial experience as a senior banker and CEO / fund manager of mortgage funds provides an insightful opinion on debt structuring, funding needs and compliance.
Susanne Bransgrove is recognised as a family governance expert and has been
working in this sector for many years across various countries, including Australia, New
Zealand, Germany, the USA as well as the UK.
Growing up in Germany as part of a third-generation family business has provided her
with a sound foundation for understanding the range of issues that arise when needing
to balance the performance of the family office or family business with the differing
needs of multiple generations.
Prior to specialising in this sector, Susanne has had a long and successful career in
the corporate sector, including working for Commerzbank Bremen (Germany),
Australia and New Zealand Banking Corporation (Australia) and Macquarie Bank
(Australia), where she held a national role before starting her first business.
With her communication skills and engaging personality, Ruth makes the ideal membership officer for GABA. Please don’t hesitate to contact her about any questions, queries, ideas or feedback you might have – she will happily get in touch with you to discuss any matter!
She is not only passionate about connecting and connecting with people, but also about education, which is her university and work background, the development of disadvantaged young people, which was the topic of her doctor’s thesis, and – as a Bavarian – the art of brewing beer (and she can proudly say that all of her homebrews so far have at least been drinkable).
Years of experience in senior business management, her academic background and now running her own eLearning company contribute to the continuous development of GABA – and her energy and enthusiasm push it even further.

With over 10 years experience in the IT industry, mainly in the field of IT security, Markus has worked for high profile companies and clients like Mercedes-Benz or Fujitsu.
After migrating to Australia Markus founded Happy Cloud Solutions, a company focused on providing tailored IT services, consulting and managed services.
Markus has a Masters degree in Management and is a graduated engineer in Information Technology.
